How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption
You will need to apply with the county where your home is located (links below) the year you own the home on January 1st in order to qualify. We always send full packets to our clients that purchase with us, but if you didn’t here’s what you need to do:
- Be occupying the property as your homestead (primary residence) on January 1st of the the year in which the exemption is requested.
- Get the form from the county’s appraisal district website and fill out.
- Your Texas Driver’s License or State ID card must match the address on the property that you are filing for homestead.
- Your application must be submitted on or before April 30th to receive the tax benefits for this year.
