The sun is shining. The temperature is rising. Everything outside is becoming fresh and new. Time to bring that fresh feeling into your home while washing the winter doldrums away. Here are 5 simple steps to get you started.
1. Make a Schedule: Breaking up your cleaning jobs into 15-minute intervals will make each task totally manageable every day. Some tasks may take longer. Just add that task to a day with more free time. When you schedule time to get it done, you will be pleasantly surprised how easy it is and enjoy a wonderful sense of accomplishment.
2. Declutter and Organize: Want to lower stress and frustration levels? Clean out those closets. Use storage boxes to organize seasonal things like scarves, hats and gloves. Give away things you don’t love or hardly use. Tackle that junk drawer. Imagine how much time you will save NOT looking for your keys or scissors. Enjoy the peace organization will bring to your home.
3. Enlist Help from the Whole Family: Even the youngest child can help wipe cabinets or dust. So, turn on some music, divide up the tasks and get everyone involved. The good news is that once someone has helped clean, they have some vested interest in keeping it clean!
4. Start Cleaning from Top to Bottom: Dust Ceilings and Ceiling Fan Blades. Walls also collect dust. Use a damp cloth to wipe them down. After that, try cleaning your windows on a cloudy day using half white vinegar and half water, wiping with newspaper. You’ll be amazed by the streak free shine. Recycle old socks to use as dusting mitts for blinds.
5. Easy to Overlook Items: Make sure to remember to include these items in your cleaning schedule. Once you are done dusting, change out your air filter in HVAC; so everyone can breathe easier. Use a cleaner and sealer on your granite counter tops to add shine and prevent stains. Even your computer key pad needs upkeep. Use a Q-tip to remove dust and debris, this will put a stop to keys that stick. Finally, throw away expired food, medicine, sunscreens, and cosmetics.
Now that your home sparkles…Sit back and relax or start a new DIY project.
